Review: Planet 2000 (PlayStation 4) – Defunct Games

Defunct Games reviews Planet 2000, available now on PlayStation 4.

Even if it had Oscar-winning actors, mind-blowing graphics and great gameplay, Planet 2000 would still be a single-player action game trying to mimic online shooters. Without proper multiplayer, there’s almost no point in playing the game. The computer opponent is weak, the story isn’t especially riveting and every mission plays out exactly the same way. And that’s on top of so many other issues. If this is what we have to look forward to in space, then I think I’m better off sticking to planet Earth.

  • Games with good bots are much better than no bots! Super Bunnyhop has a fantastic video on why mp bots are important.

  • The game doesn't look good but the base destroying makes me want to see Namco make an online multiplayer version of Bosconian.

  • Christ that game looks awfully painful. This is the sort of game you'd expect from a free indie title in the late 90's where the developer has just discovered how to use a 3D engine. The kind you'd find on some random Geocities website whilst trawling Lycos, or Excite search engines for something to different to play.

OK, this wouldn't be considered accurate as very few indies did 3D back then. But that's about the best criticism I can give it.
